Eventually his journey led him to Zimbabwe where he coached basketball and began his family. After twelve years, including some difficult seasons of loss, their work visas were revoked and the ministry they had built felt like it was ripped from their hands. While leaving Zimbabwe was an injustice, it was also God beginning to show Hugh new aspects of his ministry.

Joe O’Tool is a chiropractor in Des Moines, Iowa who is using his skills to help the most vulnerable in society. Today, he shares how God led him to a radical decision to surrender profits in service to a mission. His fascination with science and the human body led him to chiropractic school and Joe shares the story of how even in that experience God used him to share the Gospel with a classmate using the intricacy of the human body. The passion evident in his love for the holistic care of human beings took a turn when Joe and his brother began planning the business they wanted. They were ambitious and planned for 60 clinics but wondered when enough was enough. That’s when they decided to turn the business into a non-profit to serve the least of these.

I tell this story not to distract from Keith Giles' story but to let you know that if our conversation about separating church and state is challenging for you. That was me just a few years ago. But it also comes with an invitation to listen, consider what he says, and decide for yourself.

Quentin Banks met Jesus in the St. Louis County jail. That’s just the beginning of his story. He is one of my favorite people ever to share on Halfway There because of the powerful work God has done in his life. Quentin is the definition of a man seeking after God’s heart while still wrestling with a world that is far from His ideal. The stories he shares about how he comes to trust God will encourage you, too.

Today we look at how this experience of learning to trust God over a long period of time is common, even in Scripture. I show through the Abraham’s story that he learned to believe God through the ups and downs of his own life so that by the time God asks Abraham to sacrifice Isaac in Genesis 22 he just does it.
